Make way world! My newest nephew has arrived, at long last… and he is just beautiful. He was actually born on December 21st, 2006 at 1:00pm and he was 9lbs., 2oz. and 21″ long, but I just received this picture and I wanted to post some of my own sepia tone lovin’…
Congratulations Paula and Keith! What a little wonder you’ve been blessed with. He is going to be daddy’s pride and mommy’s sighs, and I am just terribly heart sick that I can not be there to meet him in person… soon though… soon.

Those two words, to me, right now… the best freakin’ words I could ever hear, besides perhaps “You’re the million dollar winner”! But I guess that’s more then two words.
I gots tha job… Woohoo! You can’t see me right now, but… yes I’m wearing pants… nevermind, but I’m doin’ the tootsie roll with a smile from ear to where… sure I am, I’m typing with my monkey foot. Ha… yes it’s hilarious, you really should see it… oh wait.
Yeah well… the point is I am now gainfully employeed. The company smart enough to hire me? A design firm downtown, who for these blogging purposes shall remain nameless. Nevertheless I am excited to be a part of their team as an Account Coordinator. Yup, not as a designer… and it’s all good. I have more then enough design of my own I need to get around to…

Today one of my wishes came true. To see Bonsai Pipeline swell.
We shot up to the North shore this morning, figuring with it being Christmas eve and all there would be minimal traffic… and we were correct. After a couple of grab-n-gos we finally checked in at Waimea Bay. It was bigger than i’d ever seen it, and impressive in it’s break… I’m no master at scaling waves, but I’d venture to say out by the point they were 10′ faces easy. The point is kind of far from where you stand on the beach though, so it’s cool to watch, but to get much closer you can drive about 10 minutes down Kam Hwy to the stretch of shore that leads down to Ehukai beach park or Bonsai Pipeline. We stopped and spent most of the day around the “Off the wall” break {photo1} I took a plethora of pictures, but that was by far the best. It was beautiful there… the shore erupting these massive waves over and over… and our full frontal view was pretty crazy. You could see the riders disappear behind a wall of water and either pop out and over the lip at just the right time, or not. In which case, you could only imagine the punishment.
About 3 o’clock we decided to head home having our full of the sun. When we made our way back to Marshall’s truck to find a window shattered. Stoopid punks. Don’t ever leave valuables in your vehicle when parking to go to any beach in Hawaii. Local assholes will steal your shit!
The police came, a report was made and we continued on to the actual beach park so the boys could wizzzz and there it was… Pipeline… the wave I have seen in photos since I was thirteen. Over the course of the day and that hour we waited for the police she had cleaned herself up {photo2&3} You probably can’t tell from the photos, but in the afternoon sun it was like crystal and white. I wonder if I’ll see any of those photos in the next issues of any one of the surf rags. Just amazing. Easily the coolest Christmas eve ever.

Happy tree… merry balls… and peace on earth… and stuff. geez… no wait… I’m sorry… I do wish each and every…one person… reading this a very seasoned greeting… and… dot dot dot… and ho ho ho… and if it weren’t for the commercialism surrounding me right now I would have probably missed the entire holiday season this year… totally unlike me, seeings how I love to give… but it’s 70 degrees here and my head is full of other petty ornaments of retrospective thought and… dot dot dot… fudge rocks… and no I’m not drunk ’cause I don’t drink… except for red wine a little bit now, ’cause I tied it and it’s good to sip on… and of course the occasional pilsner or hefeweizen ’cause that’s real brew… not that crappy watered down bud light coors miller crap… and are you still reading this? Wow. I just realized that was like the longest run-on sentence ever…. Anyway… what I really want to say is Happy Birthday Jesus… thank you for your forgiveness and unconditional love, and the manner in which you give… without you I am lost.

speaking of U2/Pearl Jam I did say I’d post a pic of the rediculous poster I scored at the show. It’s silk screened so the colors are matte and bright… pretty pimp. sorry keith :<

Gonna check out the Sketch Crawl going on in downtown Honolulu tomorrow. The Sketch Crawl is a world wide drawing marathon held in different cities, on the same day of course. This year they’ve organized a gathering here in lovely Hawaii, and so figured I’d go. Get down with the peoples… go ol’ skool, maybe meet some interesting folks and see some sites. Could be cool… Even with my bum eyes :/

So I finally have an update on the outcome of the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble’s Crescendo! “Chair Auction”, and an ending to the “Once Upon A Tree…” story.
I received an email a few weeks ago from Justin, the guy who now owns the desk and chair, in which he couldn’t have given me more accolades on the piece’s outcome. He absolutely loves it, it’s the best thing he’s ever owned and all his friends are extremely jealous, it makes his apartment and he especially loves to look down and see the little bird smiling up at him. He went on to tell me how his mother bought it for him in the auction, which I thought was cool because I was kind of concerned about how the older crowd might receive it. But since it was a gift I figured he wouldn’t know what it went for price wise, and I opted not to ask. Instead I emailed him back, thanking him, telling him how awesome it was to hear that the person who now owns it really loves it, and that if I did anymore pieces I’d let him know.
But since then I’ve had a lot of people asking me what the highest bid was, so I decided to email Carmen, the contact for the program. She tells me that Justin is her son, and that she bought the desk/chair for him because he offered to help as a volunteer the night of the show, and for that she promised him he could have anything up for bid that he wanted. She thought when she made the deal that he’d choose something she could easily bid on, but much to her chagrin he chose hands down my desk and chair. She said it was the highest bid item of the painted pieces, and several people where disappointed when she played the “mom card,” telling them how she’d promised Justin he could pick whatever he wanted… and even though she was out bid at $350.00, everyone agreed to let her win the bid. Not bad.
So that’s the end of the desk story… what a project that was! True the outcome was great, but regardless, I would say finishing it was the real miracle… ‘Cause the Lord knows I wanted to give up. After the fifth coat of stripper, and the fourth day in a row of hand sanding all day in the sun, after the second weekend in a row of electric sanding and more hand sanding, sanding, sanding… and I hadn’t even started to paint. I wanted to burn that desk and chair!
Thank goodness for drop cloths!

Sorry. I know you probably can’t tell from this crappy phone picture just how unbelievable the concert was. In hindsight I wish I could say I’d joined the thousands who ignored the no camera rule, but alas… I cannot. Trust. I have learned.
U2 had scheduled their Vertigo tour date here back in April, but due to a family emergency they annouced they would have to postpone the show. No new date was set and folks were told to just hang on to their tickets. Would they reschedule… would they leave Honolulu hangin’? My friend Jason was one of those people. He had purchased two floor tickets, way back when, for he and another friend of ours, Liz. It was in August, around the time when Liz was moving back to Cali, that U2 annouced the new date for their show would be December 9th. But with Liz moving Jason was left without his concert wingman, and so he pondered. Who? Hmmm?
That’s where I come in, playing the part of the lucky person, which rarely happens so when it does I make sure to give extra props. Nevertheless, I hesitated for only two seconds before I was like, “Hell yeah!”. Because something really badass was afoot. Pearl Jam, who had wrapped up their tour at the Blaisdell Arena the weekend before, had asked to joined the line up. Yes, Pearl Jam. Now, because I usually don’t afford myself the lux of concert tickets I have missed just about every one of my favorite artists in show, not that I’m complaining. After all, I do own their music. I’m just trying to set the stage, and it’s a stage that just gets bigger.
After Pearl Jam’s set, which included an absolutely spellbinding performance of Israel Kamakawiwoole’s “Hawaii ‘78,” U2 took the stage, playing their new jams as well as the classics, “Where the Streets have No Name,” “(Pride) In the Name of Love,” and “One.” Then at a time when they’re political agenda couldn’t have been clearer, Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day came out to play a cover of Scottish punk band the Skids’ “The Saints are Coming” with Bono. Sweet. They continued with a couple of my faves from my high school daze “Angel of Harlem” and “Rattle and Hum,” and then Eddie, Mike McCready & Bono all jammin’ Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World”… which was just one of the finest moments of crowd clarity I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of. They debuted their version, with new lyrics, last month during an anti-poverty benefit in Australia. And somewhere in the middle of all that a very lucky guy they pulled from the crowd came on stage and played “Whose Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” on the piano with the band… It was really a night full of surprises, in front of a sold out Aloha Stadium, and I found myself standing in the middle of it all… Speechless. Starring in wonderment. I don’t think that’s a werd, whoa it is! I just looked it up on Websters.com… cool.
I guess to sum it all up… it rOcked. Yes, with a capital “O”. Thanks-o-ton to Jason, and to Trae for being our taxi man so we didn’t have to fight the traffic! Oh, and when my camera comes home I’ll totally post a pic of the killer poster I scored commemorating the show!

Not even a week old and already he’s in search of booty. The treasure kind, folks. I just had to welcome the little guy properly… Elizabeth, you did a wonderful job, he’s just perfect… I’m gonna teach him his first word. Okay Mason, can you say Arrrgh… that’s it, give a big Arrrrrgh for auntie…
